SEO metadata — page titles, meta descriptions, focus keywords — is one of the highest-impact levers on your site and one of the most consistently neglected. Most WordPress sites have dozens of posts with duplicate meta descriptions, auto-generated titles that were never optimised, or excerpt fields left completely blank. Claude can audit and fix all of it.

What the REST API Exposes

The core WordPress REST API gives you access to the excerpt field (used as meta description by many themes and SEO plugins), the title, slug, tags, and categories. If you use Yoast SEO or Rank Math, their REST API extensions expose dedicated fields for meta titles, meta descriptions, and focus keywords — all of which Claude can read and write.

The Audit-and-Rewrite Workflow

Ask Claude to pull all published posts and check the excerpt field. For any post where the excerpt is empty or longer than 160 characters, Claude reads the post content and writes a new meta description: keyword-rich, under 155 characters, with a clear benefit for the reader. Then it pushes the update via the API. A site with 80 posts can have all its meta descriptions reviewed and rewritten in a single session.

Slug and Title Optimisation

Claude can also review URL slugs for length and keyword relevance, flag titles that are too long for search snippets (over 60 characters), and suggest alternatives. Because it holds the full context of your site’s niche and audience, the suggestions are coherent and consistent — not generic rewrites from an SEO template.

SEO optimisation used to require a dedicated tool and hours of manual work. With Claude as co-pilot, it becomes a conversation.
